Haldon Industries were engaged by Synergy Resource Management to remediate 463,300L of PFAS contaminated groundwater and surface water from Jervis Bay Airfield.
Civil construction works onsite required ongoing ground and surface water dewatering. Due to the current and historical use of AFFF at the airfield and the high degree of connectivity between ground and surface water across the site, all recovered water required treatment for PFAS prior to discharge to the environment. Groundwater and surface water was collected by thesite wide dewatering system and then transferred into eight 22,500L HDPE pre treatment tanks. Coagulation and flocculation was then carried out to remove suspended solids form the water. Once sufficient clarification had been achieved water was then processed through a HI PFAS treatment unit at a flow rate of 6.5L/s. Post treatment, all water was held in eight 22,500 HDPE post treatment tanks. Prior to discharge to the environment batched validation was carried out on each of the 22,500L tanks. No exceedances of the discharge criteria were recordedfor the life of the project with 463,300L successfully treated in total.
